Kinue Hitomi
Kinue Hitomi:
A Japanese Heroine
Idea Institute’s annual picture-book project, which we began in 1997, is now in its twenty-second year.
This year’s publication tells the life story of Kinue Hitomi, Japan’s first female Olympic medalist.
Kinue was a devoted athlete, yet also loved literature and classical Japanese poetry. Her bravery, perseverance, and sensitivity make her a role model for not just Japanese women, but people all over the world as well.
In addition to Japanese, her story is also presented in English, French, and Swedish.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Japan Women’s College of Physical Education and the Japan Sports Association for their significant cooperation and support.
