Splendor and Sublimity in the Middle Ages
Scenes of Japanese Culture, Part Ⅱ:
Splendor and Sublimity in the Middle Ages
Idea Institute’s annual multilingual picture-book project, which we began in 1997, is now in its twenty-seventh year.
This year’s picture book is the second part in our series “Scenes of Japanese Culture,” which we began last year. It introduces major trends in Japanese culture from the late eighth to the sixteenth century.
We hope that it will transport readers back in time to the Japanese Middle Ages, a period when Japanese identity was shaped in various fields and the nation’s unique aesthetics were developed.
The book’s content is presented in Japanese, English, French, and Spanish.
